A Farewell Gift

Remembrance poems are here

Unfortunately, goodbyes are part of life. But I reckon for every farewell there's another hello that awaits.

If you want to consider saying goodbye in style, why not have a poem written especially for the occasion? Mary Beth did, this is her second request for another colleague who was "moving on".

Curtains for Kurt

Full Name:             Mary Beth DePersio (World Finer Foods, Inc.)

Who do you want the poem written for?: Kurt Richter

Why do you want the poem written ?: Kurt is retiring from the specialty foods business.

Key Messages:          Kurt Richter has been a major part of the importing and distribution of specialty foods since the early 70's.  Richter Brothers, Inc. was a business Kurt's father started in a small loft in lower Manhattan. Kurt was the primary reason for their success. He was quite innovative. He brought a number of brands to this country that are now household names. Some were not so successful like the Pierre Cardin line of specialty foods. Others have become staples. Much of the success that American Marketing Team (a division of World finer Foods) enjoyed in the early years was Kurt's doing.

We want Kurt to know that we'll miss him, that his efforts are remembered and admired.  And we want to wish him well in his retirement.

The people who should be mentioned in the poem are John Beers (CEO of our company and good friend), Frank Muchel (President and good friend), Blair (Kurt's wife).  Possible others to mention:  Peter Leiendecker, Joyce Loter, Dit Van Clief.  These are all people Kurt has worked closely with over the years.

Memorable Moments:     His good qualities are loyalty and dependability. If Kurt tells you he's going to do something, it's done. And you never have to watch your back when you're dealing with him.

Kurt is handy with his hands. He loves to work around the house. Can fix most anything. Especially good at word-working and restoring furniture.

He's an avid sailor. Has owned a couple of sailboats. Has become a regular on Barnegat Bay among the sailboat racing crowd. He decisive on the water. Once he jumped in the water to retrieve a line and saved a large sailboat from running aground.

Living in Little Silver next to the water and close to the ocean Kurt has had his share of battles with Mother Nature and lives in a constant state of readiness for the next big blow.

Lately he's shown his German heritage and taken a shot at brewing his own beer called "Little House Ale".

His propensity for "warm and fuzzy" things is illustrated in the sheepskin seats in his SUV.

Style:                 Happy but touching poem

Package Type:          Standard

Last thoughts:         This is a free poem as our poem for Diana Rocofort was the deluxe package. (Every Deluxe Package entitles you to a free Standard poem package, to be used anytime in the next 12 months. Ed).

Thanks. Mary Beth DePersio

Curtains for Kurt
I'm sorry Kurt,
but it's curtains for you, my friend,
although we're sorry to see you go,
every good story needs a good end.
And as those curtains draw across the stage
and you take your final bow,
there's a few things we should say
and we'll try to say them - somehow.
You see, you are so loyal and dependable,
when you say you're going to do something - it gets done,
you've bought so many successful brands to our shores,
apart from Pierre Cardin (we'll forget that one!)
And from the small beginnings in a loft,
the American Marketing Team has grown and grown,
much of that success, especially in the early years,
was because of all the effort that you've shown.
And you will be sadly missed,
by us and many more
and we just wanted to wish you bon voyage,
that's really what these words are for.
And you may have to batten down the hatches,
especially when the next good blow comes in,
of course you'll manage in your normal style,
effortlessly and with that satisfied grin.
And you've made many an impact,
as you've worked steadfastly over the years,
Frank Muchel, Peter Leiendecker, Joyce Loter,
Dit Van Clief (let's not forget John Beers).
And one last word of advice,
because, after all, you're hearty and hale,
don't brew too much of that wonderful drop,
your beer called "Little House Ale".
And now you'll spend more time with Blair
and you'll sail off to sun soaked climes
and we wish you continued joy and happiness,
just another reason for these rhymes.
In fact, those sails are your curtains
and now you'll have time for many an horizon new,
just know that we'll miss you heaps
and that we're very proud of you.
