Dream Of a Child
A poem from a proud mother to her daughter.
Who are you ? I am a mother of an 18 year old daughter Alessandra who will be
graduating from high school on May 26th then will be attending Auburn
University. She is our only child so this is an interesting transition for
Alessandra as well as her parents. This life transition brings both great
joy and sadness.
Who do you want the poem written for ? We would like the poem to be written
for Alessandra from birth to gradation
Why do you want the poem written ? I am making a photo album about
Alessandra's life from the day of her delivery to graduation from high school
What are the key messages you would like the poem to send ? How proud we are
of her and all of her accomplishments. She has been swimming competitively
since she was 6 years old. Made junior national time cuts at 13 years old,
senior national cuts at 14 and Olympic Trail cuts at the age of 15. She went
to Olympic Trails in August of 2000 competing in the 100 and 200 butterfly.
Although she did not make the team what an accomplishment. I want the poem
to also reflect her gentle, kind spirit and the incredible joy she has
brought to our lives. She is truly a gentle spirit. Some words people have
used to describe her are: grace, graceful, gentle spirit, warm heart, cuddly,
quiet strength, quietly determined, focused.
Do you have any funny, sad, happy, embarrassing or otherwise memorable
moments that you would like to share ?
Do you have any other comments or thoughts ? I was only able to have one
child and God truly blessed me with an extraordinary daughter who I am proud
to call my friend.
What style of poem would you prefer ? (Happy, sad, romantic etc.)
Happy...great pride and deep love
Which charity would you like your donation made to ? American Heart

Hello, my little darling,
I can feel you start to move inside,
you fill my heart with so much love,
you fill my very soul with pride.
This was nineteen years ago,
it was early morning, nearly two,
it was then I started to dream,
about what life has in store for you:
I dreamt that you'd graduated,
so you must have been about eighteen,
and you'd grown into such a fine woman,
in fact, one of the finest ever seen.
You were a terrific swimmer,
you'd swam to enormous lengths,
and your beauty and your character,
were only two of your many strengths.
You had such a gentle spirit,
so warm hearted and full of grace,
a quietly focused achiever,
a gentle determined look upon your face.
You were my only child,
but still, I felt so wonderfully blessed,
to have any child is a blessing,
but it's so wonderful to have the very best.
Like most good things in life,
that dream it had to end,
and mothers don't have extraordinary daughters,
even less have their daughter as a very good friend.
But my friend and extraordinary Alessandra,
dreams they can come true,
and I no longer have to dream asleep,
because I'm awake and looking at you.

"Allen, printed out the poem last evening and have been crying ever since.
You have a wonderful gift of being able to capture the essence of what I was
trying to achieve. I am in the process of creating a 18 year scrap book on
Alessandra's life which will also be turned into a video and this is the
In your email you asked if I mind if you publish the poem, I do not mind you
can keep it as is.... I would like the paper for the poem to be on "beach at
sunset". I would love to receive the original hand written draft. I would
like to have the poem autographed.
As soon as I send off this email I will contact Buyit service to let them
know of my deep appreciation and satisfaction.
Originally I thought the poem would be from both my husband and myself
however after reading the poem which touched me deeply I suggested that my
husband contact you to have a poem written especially for him.
Thank you for sharing your gift.
Heart felt thank you,
